Curtain cleaning in Dubai

Curtains do more work in Dubai than in most places. They sit against glass in constant sun, they filter the air conditioning, and they catch the fine dust that gets into every apartment and villa here no matter how well sealed it is. Two years is usually enough for a pale curtain to go a shade darker without anyone noticing it happen, because it happens evenly.

Home curtain cleaning services, done in one visit

The standard approach in Dubai is take-away: a company arrives, unhooks everything, drives it to a laundry and returns it two or three days later. That works, but you live with bare windows in the meantime, and rehanging heavy drapes is its own problem.

In home curtain cleaning does the whole thing where the curtains hang. Dry extraction of the dust, then steam through the fabric, then spot work on anything that needs it. One visit, usually two to three hours for a normal apartment, and nothing leaves the house.

It also removes the biggest risk in the take-away model, which is fabric getting washed by weight rather than by type. Curtains that come back shrunk, stiff or a different colour are almost always the result of a machine treating silk like cotton.

Curtain steam cleaning

Steam is the core of it. High temperature, very little moisture. It goes through the weave, lifts embedded dust and body oils, kills dust mites, and neutralises smell, cigarette smoke and cooking odours in particular sit in curtain fabric and won’t air out on their own.

Because the water content is low, the fabric never really gets wet. That’s what allows curtain steam cleaning to happen on the rail without a curtain stretching under its own weight or dripping onto the floor.

Curtain dry cleaning for delicate fabrics

Not everything should meet steam. Silk, some velvets and certain lined drapes need dry cleaning methods instead, solvent-based treatment that lifts soil without introducing water at all.

We decide which after checking the fabric, the lining and the manufacturer’s label where there is one. Getting this wrong is the one mistake in curtain cleaning that can’t be corrected, so it’s the step we’re slowest on.

Curtain washing in Dubai: what we do and don’t recommend

Some curtains genuinely are washable, plain cotton and polyester sheers mostly, and for those a proper wash is fine. What we’d steer people away from is washing lined, blackout or interlined curtains at home. The layers shrink at different rates, the lining puckers, and once that happens the curtain never hangs straight again.

Signs your curtains need cleaning

Dust visible along the top of the pleats when the sun hits them. A stale smell in the room that comes back a day after you air it out. Sneezing or congestion that eases when you’re out of the house. Hem marks and floor splashes. A leading edge that’s noticeably lighter than the rest from sun exposure.

Most Dubai households do curtains once or twice a year. Homes with pets, smokers, or a balcony door that’s open a lot need it more often.

Curtains, sofa and carpet in the same room share the same dust and the same smells, and cleaning one of the three rarely fixes the room. Most of our curtain bookings in Dubai are part of a combined visit, and it works out cheaper and faster than three separate trips.

Sofa cleaning runs at AED 50 plus 5% VAT per seat and carpet at AED 25 plus 5% VAT per square metre, so it’s easy to price the room as a whole.
